This Curvi Yogi is RESILIENT!

Meet Nicarah, a yogi whose practice has helped her through tough times and has given her a new appreciation for her body!

1. What is the affirmation that resonates with you right now in your life? Why did you pick this affirmation?

I am in charge of how I feel, and Today I choose Happiness!

I tell myself this daily (hourly sometimes) because of how quickly our emotions change and dark energies can easily shift your mood. It’s helps me to stay in “My Happy Place.”

2. How did you start your yoga practice?

I started My Yoga practice about 8 years ago, and have been consistent for the past 6 years. I was experiencing a lot of losses (family members passing away) in my life at the time, and it was the best thing I did for myself.

3. As a Curvy Yogi, what obstacles have you had to overcome in your practice?

The obstacle I face mainly in my practice, is being critical of myself/my body image. So, after spending time with myself and giving myself a pep talk, I remind myself how amazing I AM, and that THIS body is equally amazing!

4. What is your favorite yoga pose? Why?

My favorite yoga pose is Compass Pose/Parivrtta Surya Yantrasana and any variations. It is a full body stretch, increasing flexibility with a bit of a twist and makes me feel so feminine and strong!

5. What is your least favorite yoga pose? Why?

My least favorite yoga pose is Crow Pose/Bakasana and most arm balances. UUGGGHHH! My skin is soft and don’t have very toned arms, so the knees drag on my skin when trying to balance. And I use my hands for work, so It’s alot on my wrists for arm balances.

6. Do you use props in your practice? If so, what is your favorite prop to use? Why?

Absolutely!! I rarely have a practice without props. I love my Aerial Silks!! They have me feeling extremely sensual and increase my flexibility without me having to warm up a lot. I love seeing myself after my practice. Makes me feel like I’m one step closer to being in Cirque Du Soleil lol!

7. What advice would you give to other Curvy Yogis who are trying to build their practice?

My advice to other Curvy Yogis would be to Focus- Focus on yourself!! And then your practice will become your own.

Practice safety first; the fun yoga pose looks good, but if you injure yourself, you’re not listening to your body. Which ultimately causes many to stop practicing.

Be consistent, even if you don’t complete a yoga flow daily, train your mind, to allow the meditation sessions to be just as effective as a physical practice.

Practice safely – do not let your Ego push you into postures for which your body may not be ready.

Lastly, do not let the social media platform make you question yourself. Comparing and self doubt will definitely come into play, but that serves you no purpose!! You never know who’s out there, that looks like YOU, and you are inspiring!! Each one Teach One!
