This Curvy Yogi is RESILIENT!

Meet Khandi, a Mom, Wife, and runner who is discovering all that yoga has to offer! Read on to learn more about her yoga journey

1. What is the affirmation that resonates with you right now in your life? Why did you pick this affirmation?

I will live, love, laugh and eat the damn cake!

In this past year lost my birth mother. She did not raise me but we had an awesome relationship. Her death was added proof that life can be short and we shouldn’t take it for granted. I want to LIVE life, not just exist; and having some cake will make life that much sweeter.

2. How did you start your yoga practice?

As an avid runner my body was starting to give out on me mid run…especially my hips. One of my sole sisters mentioned that she did yoga for runners before each run and sent me a video link. I was sold after that!

3. As a Curvy Yogi, what obstacles have you had to overcome in your practice?

Thinking that yoga was just stretching. I’ve learned it’s so much more: focusing…breathing…meditating. It includes the physical, mental and spiritual.

4. What is your favorite yoga pose?

Dancer is my favorite! Why? For me, it requires extreme focus and it looks so graceful. I feel “in the zone” when I do dancer pose.

5. What is your least favorite yoga pose? Why?

Savasana.

Most get excited for Savasana. I get anxious for it to be over. I have yet to fully relax during Savasana. My mind begins to wander and I start thinking of what I need to do after practice.

I also have a love/hate relationship with Crow. I want to achieve Crow pose sooooo bad, but just haven’t been able to wrap my mind around it mentally. Whenever I see it’s one of the poses in a challenge, I get discouraged.

6. Do you use props in your practice? If so, what is your favorite prop to use?

Yes, I have a strap, 2 wheels, and several blocks.

I love my yoga strap. Why? It helps with my flexibility and most times, my lack of flexibility. LOL! There are times, when I just can’t reach, bend or twist enough. The strap allows me to position my body, while using proper form and not hurting myself.

7. What advice would you give to other Curvy Yogis who are trying to build their practice?

Be patient and don’t get disappointed when you don’t look like other yogis out there. Find a studio or instructor you are comfortable with. Until then, practice at home or with a friend. You will be amazed how much having support and encouragement will deepen your practice.

Thank you Khandi for sharing your practice with us!
